With party season in prime time and your social calendar filling up, it’s the perfect time to test out modern metallics. For those slightly nervous or skeptical, follow our guide. What we love most about metallics, it’s their versatility.
1) Wear it with chic tailoring.
A beautiful champagne gold maxi skirt has been teamed with heavily embellished sequin heels that would make Cinderella green with envy, yet the look is not tacky or too much. What makes it work is the black and casual contrast of the slouch T and rolled-up sleeved blazer, casual bun hairstyle, and daytime jewellery. Sometimes bring the look back a notch to make it stand out more!
2) Don’t be afraid to go all out and floor-length.
Sometimes it’s easy when you receive that formal invite to reach straight for the long block color dress #boring. It can be daunting but these dresses stay elegant as even though they are extremely striking and fashion-forward they shy away from the flashy bright sequin dresses we know from the 80’s (or towie). A long sequin dress can just have beautiful touches and artistry as these two dresses demonstrate (both available on the #MyDerailed website)
3) It’s Ok to be sparkly before dark.
Think black knee-length winter boots and an elegant tote bag, A cute tea-dress and some sparkle notes thrown in- You may be heading for a coffee or perusing the shops but one things for sure, you will be a daytime showstopper. I would avoid any clashing accessories with this look.
4) Don’t overdo the colour palette.
In this look (created by #MyDerailed) we stuck to a colour palette of black and gold. As a result of the edging on the dress really stands out creating a striking look, it also gives way to wear more elaborate embellished designs like this dress shown. A few black and gold accents and this look is complete.
5) Shiny satin metallics can be dresses up or down.
Recreate the 90’s in this satin slip dress (available from #MyDerailed by adding trainers and a denim jacket for a daytime look, then change things all the way up with crystal heels and hoops, when you have a light colour like this dress it makes things easier when selectin accessories you don’t have to be so careful as you have a neutral palette to work with.
